We know Xara3D 6 is already addictive and now it's going to be even more so, with a couple of great new animation types and even more bevel styles to experiment with. You have been warned!

Plus there are new controls over X & Y position and viewpoint, a wireframe mode and some essential updating for Win 7. Here's a summary of the new features in Xara 3D Maker 7, you can also find more information in our Intro Tutorial and Gary's Priester's Overview on the Xara Xone.

'Scroll' animation type added
A new 'scroll' animation type. Now you can scroll text vertically, horizontally or into and out of the screen, with full control over the speed.  Both the scroll and new scroll in & out animations are perfect for movie and video opening titles and closing credits (export as AVI, compatible with any movie software).
Integration with MAGIX movie & slideshow products
Xara 3D Maker 7 can export animations with a transparent background in a proprietary format called CFX which can be imported into MAGIX slideshow and movie editing software, Photostory on CD & DVD 9 and Movie Edit Pro 17. Which makes 3D Maker the perfect choice for creating overlaid 3D captions for movies or slideshows produced in MAGIX software.

Create animated 3D captions with transparent backgrounds for use in MAGIX movie and slideshow titles
'View options' panel

A 'View options' panel which gives additional advanced control over the X/Y position of an image against its background, allows you to precisely change the angle of rotation and viewpoint, and offers a new wireframe mode which can simplify the display and speed up animation viewing time.
Compatible with Windows 7

Official Win 7 compatibility. Also optionally for Windows 7 rarely used fonts are hidden to unclutter the font list.
Other software compatibility
You can now cut and paste your 3D images to Microsoft Word and other programs.
'Scroll in/out' animation type added
A second new 'scroll in/out' animation type, which includes separate control over how the text enters and leaves the screen - so for example it could scroll in slowly from the right, hesitate and then exit quickly upwards!
Bevel types added
7 new bevel types, increasing even further the range of different styles you can create.

7 new bevel types including smoothed, fancy incut 3, angle faced and angle cornered
Save & restore
Automatic save and restore of the current design on program exit and start-up, or on Windows shutdown.
Easy access to samples

Instant access to over 700 ready made Xara 3D Maker samples via a new Open Samples option in the File menu.

IDA: What's new in 6.1

  • Support for Android
The long awaited Android support in IDA is ready!
The new version can disassemble Android bytecode (Dalvik).
An IDA user kindly contributed the processor module and file loader (thank you!)
    A screenshot for your pleasure:
Dalvik disassembler is available in the Professional Edition.
Native ARM code can be debugged too.
IDA supports mixed ARM/Thumb code and can handle multithreaded applications:
  • 64-bit support for Bochs/GDB debuggers
The Bochs emulating debugger is very handy for small snippets of code. Before we could handle only 32-bit code but the new version adds 64-bit support.
Currently only the IDB mode is supported, later we plan to add PE+ support as well.
The GDBServer module adds x64 support and works with the latest VMWare versions.
  • Loading PDB files under Linux/MacOSX
Another long awaited feature is loading of PDB files under Linux and Mac OS X. Lack of this feature was a blocking factor for many Unix users. It is available now. Below is a screenshot made immediately after loading a PE file with PDB info on Linux:
We added PDB support to the win32 debugger server. The Unix version of IDA connects to a remote MS Windows computer (or local Wine session) and retrieves PDB information from it.
  • String encodings
Not only Unicode, but other character encodings can be displayed in the disassembly listing. It is even possible to specify the encoding of individual strings:
  • Low level conditional breakpoints
Conditional breakpoints can be very slow, especially during remote debugging. We addressed this problem by creating server side low level conditional breakpoints. They speed up the debugger tremendously. In our tests breakpoints were handled more than 20 times faster, even when running the remote server on the same computer as IDA. Low level breakpoints are beneifical even for local debugging, so they are available for local debuggers too:
By the way, the screenshot shows other new breakpoint features: module relative, symbolic, and source code breakpoints. Unfortunately we had no time to finish source level debugging, so source level breakpoints are disabled for the moment.
  • Multithreaded debugger
Another measure to speed up the debugger: we made the debugger itself multithreaded. While this feature is not visible, it makes IDA more responsive and enjoyable to use. Also we introduced multithread support in the IDA kernel. The kernel is still single threaded but it is much more friendly towards multithreaded plugins.
  • Power PC improvements
Many things were improved in the Power PC module. All the latest instructions defined by Power ISA were added, including Altivec and VSX extensions.

Another addition is the VLE (Variable Length Encoding) instruction set, used in many embedded PPC processors.

Also useful for embedded PPC is the new option to set a fixed value for the r13 register, commonly used as base for the small data area.
  • Wingraph is back!
Chris Eagle has ported Wingraph32 to Qt framework (thanks!), and now we include it with all platforms, not just Windows.
  • SPU
In addition to Dalvik, there is another new processor module in 6.1. It is the SPU (aka Synergistic Processing Unit) of the Cell BE processor, used in Sony PS3 console. This processor module is available in the Professional Edition.

Internet Download Manager (IDM) is a tool to increase download speeds by up to 5 times, resume and schedule downloads. Comprehensive error recovery and resume capability will restart broken or interrupted downloads due to lost connections, network problems, computer shutdowns, or unexpected power outages. Simple graphic user interface makes IDM user friendly and easy to use.Internet Download Manager has a smart download logic accelerator that features intelligent dynamic file segmentation and safe multipart downloading technology to accelerate your downloads. Unlike other download managers and accelerators Internet Download Manager segments downloaded files dynamically during download process and reuses available connections without additional connect and login stages to achieve best acceleration performance.
Internet Download Manager supports proxy servers, ftp and http protocols, firewalls, redirects, cookies, authorization, MP3 audio and MPEG video content processing. IDM integrates seamlessly into Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape, MSN Explorer, AOL, Opera, Mozilla, Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Firebird, Avant Browser, MyIE2, and all other popular browsers to automatically handle your downloads. You can also drag and drop files, or use Internet Download Manager from command line. Internet Download Manager can dial your modem at the set time, download the files you want, then hang up or even shut down your computer when it's done.

Other features include multilingual support, zip preview, download categories, scheduler pro, sounds on different events, HTTPS support, queue processor, html help and tutorial, enhanced virus protection on download completion, progressive downloading with quotas (useful for connections that use some kind of fair access policy or FAP like Direcway, Direct PC, Hughes, etc.), built-in download accelerator, and many others.
Version 6.07 adds IDM download panel for web-players that can be used to download flash videos from sites like YouTube, MySpaceTV, and Google Videos. It also features complete Windows 7 and Vista support, YouTube grabber, redeveloped scheduler, and MMS protocol support. The new version also adds improved integration for IE and IE based browsers, redesigned and enhanced download engine, the unique advanced integration into all latest browsers, improved toolbar, and a wealth of other improvements and new features.
